Bridgman, MI History

Bridgman started out around 1860 as a small village near a larger and more established village in Lake Township which was once known as Charlottesville – home to the largest lumber company of its time (Charlottesville Lumber Company). As the village of Bridgman grew, its territory eventually came to include that of Charlottesville. Nearly a century later in 1949, Bridgman finally became a city. Since its identification as a city it has witnessed the construction of the Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant and various other plants and manufacturing outlets.

The Bridgman school system is highly interactive with its students, posting regular live updates on its user friendly site. Schools in Bridgman offer a wide variety of sports including volleyball, weight training, aquatics, and football and are all accredited by the NCA for school improvement. Additionally, Bridgman Elementary is on the list of Blue Ribbon schools and was exemplified for the state of Michigan as such in 2011.
