Glenn, MI History

The Glenn area saw its first permanent settlers in 1843 – 6 years after the original settlement of other portions of Ganges Township and 4 years before the official incorporation of a township. Under various names (New Casco, Packard’s Corner, etc) this territory became an ideal location for crops and orchards, which prompted the need for piers for exports. The location of this town on the lake made it a popular spot for resting and it wasn’t long before resorts were constructed to cater to passersby and merchants.

In 1937 Glenn earned its current nickname of Pancake Town. On December 7th a severe snow storm hit the area and all visitors were stranded for 3 days. The influx of hungry customers to the Glenn Restaurant of the Glenn Inn depleted the local restaurant of its resources within a matter of hours, and the only available food was pancakes – which were consumed for every meal of the day by every guest until road and sea conditions allowed for travel.
