Pentwater, MI History

Although the very first settlers (Caswell family) were the first to build a house in the wilderness of the Ottawa inhabited region in 1847, the city did not village did not officially begin to be settled and developed until 1853 when more settlers arrived. The following decade saw the construction of multiple churches, a sawmill, a post office, and more. It wasn’t until 1867 that the settlement town of Pentwater was officially incorporated as a village.
