R. M. Paget created the initial plat for West Olive in 1870 and received a post office in the same year. In 1884, West Olive became a stop on the Chicago and North Western Transportation Company and a station was constructed. It’s location and level of entrepreneurship of its settlers has always made West Olive a primary trading spot for residents of surrounding townships including Port Sheldon, Grand Haven, and Robinson Townships.
